Providing the structure for writing success

Joss Matthews, Whakatane High School teacher, recognised her students weren’t delivering the depth of writing needed to succeed in NCEA Level 1.  After learning about Writer’s Toolbox and seeing how quickly the students understood the strategies, she introduced the programme into Whakatane High School.  

Writer’s Toolbox has worked alongside the school to deliver an easy-to-follow structure with immediate feedback, allowing students to focus their ideas and giving them the tools to communicate in a concise and purposeful way.  

The learning gained from Writer’s Toolbox has led to Whakatane High School having an 80% achievement rate in NCEA portfolio writing.
