Empowering teachers; engaging students

Waitakere Primary Associate Principal Denise Haven saw the school was investing time and energy into raising writing levels—with little success.  She knew the school needed a new system and went to a Writer’s Toolbox two-day workshop to see what it was all about.  After seeing the Toolbox in action, she was excited to put it into practice at her school.  

The results spoke for themselves.  

The school's results have turned around, with the boys especially engaged with Writer’s Toolbox.  The clear structure and instant feedback in the tool has increased their enthusiasm, with some even working in their own time to better their writing and increase their scores.  

The teachers, equally, have an enthusiasm for the programme and the common language allows for easy discussion about what's happening in the classroom.  Teachers are also learning from the tool.  The programme enhances their own writing  and coaching sessions develop confidence and clarity in planning and teaching—they feel empowered.
